i have done a search but cannot find the exact answers i am looking for...

i have a GL Wagon, whilst it is only a work car (my toy car is a modded wrx), i want to do an engine swap soon... the original ea82 has done 340,000kms and is feeling a bit tired and worn out now...

what i want to do, is the ea82t swap..

what modifications/ parts do i need to purchase for me to complete this conversion.... it will be a 2-3 month conversion, as i have a lot of time to myself after work, with the help of a friend whos a quailified mechanic.

my car: 88 subaru gl wagon, ea82 carby with 5 spd dual range gearbox 4wd.

thanks heaps guys

Motor

ECU

Exhaust

Wiring harness from the dash forward

Crossmember

various random little crap from under the hood

Strtaigh turbo swap is boring though. May as well do it right with a better turbo and exhaust. Maybe some work on the fuel system. TD04 is a nice upgrade for the EA82

what about gearbox, diff, cv joints etc?

can i use my dual range 5 speed box or do i need to change to the 'box that belongs with the turbo motor? if i have to change the gearbox, will i have to change the rear diff to suit the new gearing if its any different...

oh and i intend changing exhaust (my cousin owns an exhaust shop) and maybe installing a top mounted intercooler being fed through a wrx scoop... maybe a large-ish top mount like a gtir intercooler to occupy the whole spare tyre well..

finally what kind of performance difference would i be expecting, and would i need to change any of the suspension or braking to suit the extra performance?

You can continue to use the D/R.. It will bolt right to the EA82T the same as any other EA 82.

Difference in performance from carb to turbo will be noticable.. but how much so depends on how far you decide to take it.

Rear disc upgrades from a stock turbo car would be a good thing. How much work you do with suspension, sway bars and stuff is entirely dependant on how far you decide to go with it.

well i dont intend having it as a performance car that handles like a go cart, my wrx is for that :P i just want it to have more power, and for it to put a bit of a grim on peoples faces, they hear it, expecting a wrx is coming down the road.

so you are saying pretty much all i need to do is buy the engine, loom and ecu to complete the swap? or what other under bonnet bits and pieces may i need.

i just wanna know what i'm getting myself into, rather then buying a motor and coming across all these extra costs i didnt expect..

thanks for all of your info..

p.s. if the 5 stud conversion is fairly simple/ cheap i may also do that, as i have 19 inch and 16 inch wrx wheels, which i can use...

i found a complete ea82t engine for around Au$500 but is minus loom and ecu...

i rang the wreckers and found a loom, but aparently there are two looms that are different.

will either loom fit the motor and if not, what do i have to look for to identify what loom i need for the specific motor... thanks

look at the MAF's one is a door flaper style and the other is a hot wire. also look where the engine connects to the body there are 2 plugs they could both be round, or one could be squair.

i beleve this will tell the two apart.
