asavage Posted October 13, 2003 Share Posted October 13, 2003 It wouldn't hurt to know year/model . . . Are you sure it's exhaust you're smelling? There are several known problem areas for oil leaks, and a couple of them leak and get blown back onto the exhaust wye pipe and can smoke like a MF when the pipes get hot. Also, on some models, the right inner CV boot will burst and spew grease directly onto the wye pipe's cat (and onto the hood, and onto the spare tire and firewall, etc.). First sign is when you get out after a hot run, and can see/smell the smoke. Open the hood, watch for it. If you can smell actual exhaust, you have a ventilated floorboard (rust) and an exhaust leak, or an open tailgate (wagon). Just my guess.
