The Skinny on the Ej20 Twin Turbo Swap

I've noticed there are many questions about this motor, and its ability to be put into a left hand drive vehicle. Both on this message board, as well as others, it almost seems to be some mystical creature, but infact, its really quite easy to do, and still keep both turbos. If you want to go all out, www.japanparts.com has a header replacement that puts both turbos at equal height. This will allow you to keep the turbos. Down side to going this route is that it costs $1900.00. My own Ej20tt only cost me $1400.00, which came with lower cradle, wiring harness, ecu, 5sp trans, engine, intercooler, exhaust, turbos.....everything but the car. If you can find the same deal which I did, $1900 for a header wouldnt really be all that bad. If you have a automatic car, just sell it. There are plenty of nice manual Subs out there, I have three right now, all excellent and didnt pay over $2000.00 for any of them. All together, thats $5300.00, if you want to go the expensive route.

Now for the cheap route. So the left turbo hits everything...Huh!"?!! Get a exhaust gasket kit from your local store, and take off the turbos and exhaust. The left turbo flange sets a quite different from the right one, but all you have to do is get some matching exhaust tube, make the correct bent, and cut it to about two inches on each side of the bend. Now that you have that, cut your flange off the exhaust and add the bent piece. It would probably be better to take the whole exhaust to a muffler shop with a mandrel bender if you dont know what you are doing with exhaust. Even at a muffler shop, you could get away with $200.00 for the job, just make sure that you clear the exhaust of any metal shavings of any kind. Just one little piece of weld lag will have you taking your turbos back off in a month.

As for the electrical part, if you are wise enough to make sure the wiring harness comes with the jap motor, just connect the dots!!!! It all hooks up the same way as american, just the wires are a little different in color. The factory jap ecu controlls the motor just fine, so enjoy. It does have a little dead spot between turbos, but thats really normal.

didnt spell check...sorry
