93 Loyale Speedometer Cluster

 Share

Recommended Posts

I have a 93 Loyale Wgn with the speedo cluster without the oil pressure gauge & volt gauge like older models. I came across a cluster out of a 91 loyale with all 4 gauges and was planning on installing.

My question is, anyone done this before and how involved is it ???

Does your Loyale have a tacho now? My Australian 91 EA82 had a DL cluster (without tacho) and I installed the model with tach/volts/oil pressure.

This changeover was a sod of a job - The plugs were not the same - had to match a heap of wires together. If you have a tacho already it might be not so bad - and the plugs might at least match.

You will have to install an oil pressure sender for the gague too.

Yes, this cluster and the one in the car both have tach`s. I was wondering if the plugs would be different. Did`nt think about a sending unit, DUH! This car has an idiot light for low oil pressure only. Does it get it`s signal from a sending unit also??? Or do I need to install one that is specifically for a gauge set-up ???

You will need a oil pressure sender, it gives a variable voltage signal depening on your oil pressure, (the oil pressure switch that you have just tells you that your oil pressure is dangerously low)

I also did a upgrade to add the dash with the tacho, not an easy job, it involves being good with a multimeter and it helps if you can read printed circuit boards (ie the back of the instrument cluster)

I dont wanna put you off doing it, by all means do it, but be warned that it can be tricky.

Good luck:headbang:

I am with Gannon on the difficulty stakes - thankfully Mr Subaru put most of the info on the PCB. If you have a tacho already it might not be so painful.

You can still run your idiot light sender - but u will need an additional gague type sender. I think it goes into the oil pump - there should be a blanking plug in there now.

I have a spare cluster in my bedroom and apon closer inspection, it has the circuit board tracks and the connecting pins to the Turbo light, oil pressure gauge and the volt gauge already there - minus the components.

So it looks like you only have to add extra wire and pin to the round connector from the oil pressure sender (that you will need to add to your oil pump)

The voltmeter is just fed from the voltage on the instrument cluster

Hope this makes it easire for you:banana:

How did you end up going Ronan? Very old thread I know but I'm just about to do this myself. 85 GL cluster into a 91 DL. I've learnt more here on this post than I have anywhere else in the last 3 days searching. When I go to pick up the donor cluster, I'm wondering if I grab any of the cables/plugs/looms etc? Should I grab the cluster surround with the buttons? I'm pretty sure everything is the same size.

Thanks in advance if anyone can assist a bit here as I'm still struggling to find a write up.

Cheers,

Matt
