Guest jcdenton
hello, first I am not a clutch expert, but I have a manual and I can adjust things. my clutch disengages when it is all they way to the floor, even letting up a little and it starts to ingage. also it is kinda stiff. there is a string here that attributes stiffness sometimes to the hillholder. i don't think my hillholder valve works, at least I have never been able to get it to work, could the hillholder still possibily be causing a problem even though it doesn't function? Guest Snowman
Here's what I think: The hill holder is causing the increased resistance. It could also be a sticky cable, but I would say hill holder. Just disconnect it if it doesn't work. The clutch cable needs to be tightened because it has stretched or was improperly adjusted to begin with. It could be stretched due to the increased resistance. Guest Skip
as I said in the other post the hill lolder is the return spring for the clutch release fork. If you choose to do with out it, it would be a wise move to add a return spring as the throw out bearing would ride on the pressure plate release fingers. Too many times a suggestion is made with no mention of the consequences, sorry no offense ment Snowman. The HH or it's cable may be causing the added resistance but it is easily tested. Due to the ease of the HH operation the cable rarely wears. I have found most HH work well when adjusted properly. Some people would rather just disconnect it rather than work on adjusting it properly. It is a rather unique and nice feature when working properly, as all four of mine do. As the other post alluded to a frayed inner cable on the main clutch cable will add resistance and cause the binding. As will routing the cable incorrectly. The throwout bearing could also be hanging on the tranny input shaft cover. Pedal pivots are a long shot but easily lubed. The release point is a function of both the main cable adjustment and the condition of the clutch disc/pressure plate. Hope this helps
Guest jcdenton
thanks, when I bought it the guy said he had the clutch cable replaced very recently, so maybe it wasn't adjusted properly when it was installed. also, my HH (thanks for the abv.) doesn't seem to work and my throwout bearing is worn and wines alot, so maybe the HH was disabled in the past and the bearing is showing it's wear because of that? how do you test to see if the HH is adding resistance? would my chiltons manual show how to adjust the HH? thanks for your help. Guest Russ Hill
Sounds like it just needs a clutch adjustment. The Hill-Holder won't work well with it that far out of adjustment.

Guest jcdenton
I messed around with it, and the HH cable was just loose, and the clutch cable needed to be adjusted. now all I have to do is mess with the pedal height. thanks guys.
