and decided its time to start to finish the FT4WD conversion on my GL-10. Its going to get put in the air, and the trans is gonna come out...like, NOW. Then to go in, an XT6 FT4WD trans. After that, the driveshaft center bearing support...and a new exhaust.

So, maybe I'll have a write-up on this...

So far its been pretty simple. Find 4wd rear suspension. replace 2wd with 4wd stuff(bolt off, bolt on). Drill 4 holes for rear diff support, bolt stuff on. Find 4wd trans and matching diff. Install trans. This get more complicated with the XT6 trans, I think. But then again, I've got a legacy x memeber I will try on for size. The 5spd conversion was a little more complicated than this.

Ok, item 1: Problem. I dont have the front and rear sections, only the center section and the mount on it.

Item 2: This area is also on the 2wd XT turbo trans.

Item 3: The stock mount on the XT turbo trans.

I pulled out the Legacy crossmember...its WAY to big. And the center section of the XT6 FT4WD wont bolt up to the legacy xmember, and no way in heck will it bolt up to the EA82 chassis.

So, I see problems, and i see a solution, can anyone else see it?

Um hey, JonOfScio, The tranny from the XT6 is an EA series tranny, not the EJ series.

WJM - does the tranny mounting area look alot like thiese on this page? (I'm thinking it should be identical)

I took the 2wd mounts and crossmember, and used them on the XT6 trans. Bolts right up perfectly. Its in. Now I ahve to mod some shifter stuff.

The shifter package I got was for a D/R. It was in a wreck and bent up. SO i had to bend some stuff, and I'll have to shave some metal, and take one mount and use it on something else....blah blah. Better explanation to come when i get it right.

After that, I am not going to weld, like Miles did, but rather drill and bolt up the center driveshaft supports. Then she's done after I install a new clutch cable.

once you get all the right parts and a good shop, its not hard. Im working on a concreate pad...with a jack and hand tools. Thats it. It took me, in a fully equipped shop, 2hrs to completely change the rear suspension over form 2wd to 4wd. So far, w/out all that, its taken me almost 3 days to install a tranmission. But that part is over now. At least I didnt have ot take the engine out! 1 hr in a shop...here? who know. No engine lift. Bad news.

Well, something is wrong internally on the FT4WD trans....its stuck in 5th and the shifter is like its in neutral....so...i dunno whats wrong.

I did go get another XT6 FT4WD trans for $50. It will go in there if I dont figure out what the problem is.
