Mouse nest

Recommended Posts

http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=10333&cat=500&ppuser=124 Pics of the mouse nest I found in my dash while replacing my heater core. I am preparing a detailed report on how to replace a gen 1 heater core including pics so stay tuned..... and watch those mice

Yeah I know the feeling! I had a mouse nest under the cowl on my Brat and when I swapped cowls, thats when I noticed it. No wonder my heater had this stinky smell to it:rolleyes:

When I got my 78 Brat about 2 years ago it had been sitting for about 10 years in a field. When I opened the hood there was a big field mouse living under the hood where the spare tire went. I also found a big mouse nest inside the air box. When I took the fan out to see what was going on in there I found my second big mouse nest! Mice like Subies I guess.

They nested IN the blower motor housing of my new-to-me 86 sedan - I bet they scattered when I turned it on after sitting for 3 years.

Still remnants of it in there - got to fish out more with a coat hanger I think. It's down in there with the AC condenser.

Anyone know what will kill the smell? Pretty sure pine oil will do it, but how best to deliver that? Spray bottle into the vent intake I guess - with the fan on high?

The regular PineSol will get to you worse than the mousie smell, too strong for the close quarters of a car. Get the blue colored PineSol, it's a lot less offensive and it kills the bacteria/odors the same. "All" brand fabric freshener is good too, but doesn't kill germs.

Funny, I noticed this morning, when the sun hit it just right... there is another nest on the other side I need to pick out. Lucky for me, it hasn't a smell... or maybe the exhaust leak is just masking it :)

Chlorine bleach, diluted to 1/2 the strength recommended on the bottle. I've done this with an EA82 before...'86 3-door. We ended up taking out the entire interior due to mice and mold from a non-sealing sunroof...anything cloth was pitched, including the seats, headliner, carpet and underlay. All the plastic surrounds were removed and hand-washed. Bleach and water in the vents with the heater on HI and lots of elbow grease, and an '89 3-door interior later, all was well again...

Jude, remember Skippy, the black lab, you met at Paul's? He snagged a mouse in our driveway last night... that sucker was dippin' and divin'... Skip grabbed him. let him go and grabbed him again... then lights out! He's keeping the Subies safe!
