Well maybe the vacume lines, but its hard to tell what they did with the air filter covering most of the important area of the motor (the carb). And its probably good that its not the original pump. I've always had the stock pumps in my gen 1's and they worked great. cricket Posted April 10, 2006 Share Posted April 10, 2006 My repair manual has emissions diagrams for different generations of Subarus. Compare the oldest with yours and that will show you what needs to be "deleted" to de-emission your Subaru. It would seem to me that all you absolutely need is the vacuum advance line AND the crankase ventilation tube. You can turn the crankase ventilation tube DOWN and away, to create a negative pressure at its open tip. This is a simple way to run your crankase gases out of your engine and out the tube. The PCV valve is useless in my mind so you can probably do away with that too. Everything else can be removed and/or plugged up. They even have those nice vacuum cap kits at Rose Auto (or whatever is they call themselves now--Discount? Murray's?) . well I fitted the filter/airbox to the carb, looks great, can't wait till fire it up, if only I knew what those two hoses were for If anyone else wants to fit this filter I can do a write-up Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ecky Posted April 12, 2006 Share Posted April 12, 2006 I bought that same fuel pump for my '77 It is in the original pumps place, but it is a pusher not a puller. I think the instructions said it needs to be 6" below the tank and aimed up at a 45 degree angle. I put mine right were yours is and I get that same ticking. but I kinda like it. Skip Posted April 13, 2006 Share Posted April 13, 2006 MAV, I believe the hose with the bolt in it goes to the thermo valve for the the air cleaner snorkel to exhaust furnace control valve diaphragm. I now notice in picture three on the first page of this post, the diaphragm control valve has no hose on it. (it's on top of the aircleaner snorkel.) This system brings warm air into the air cleaner in cold weather. (not needed where you are) The thermo valve resides on the under side of the air cleaner. The line with the bolt, went to it, it controls vacuum to the diaphragm when it's cold enough, via another rubber line. The flex pipe from the opening in the underside of the snorkel to the furnace, is probably not there either.
