Strut and shock Options!

Recommended Posts

alright i'm broke but what the hell, i'll ask this anyway...

what strut options are there for the gen1's?

i did a search and found some good stuff but not quite what i'm looking for...

i want to be able to turn a sharp corner without the car leaning over and have everybody think my car is gonna roll...

i heard that KYB GR-2 struts are a bit stiffer... anybody know what'd it take get GR-2's for say an ea81 to fit? i know its possible...

i have a set of RX springs which i think would compliment nicely...

anybody done this? should i just go on a field day and upgrade the hubs, control arms ect ect so i'd have vented rotors????

oh and what about the rear???

EA81 struts will fit, however, you'll have to make new mounting tabs on the strut housing in order for it to bolt up correctly to your knuckle.

If you do end up converting your front end over to an EA81 setup like i have done in the past, you'll need to make some custom control arms which aren't hard for someone who has a metal lathe. All I had to do was make new stabilizer bars for the EA81 control arms since they were waaaaay too short. Since the original EA81 stabilizer bars were bolted on, I unbolted them and welded the new stabilizer bars on. I made the stabilizer bars the exact same length as the original EA71.

For the rear, I don't have a clue:-p

Kostamojen

The rears are a pretty simple shock setup... Do you think that kind of shock could just be some kind of generic length shock you could buy from any old place?

i was thinking possibly converting to coil-overs... dunno how stiff that'd make it... and i'd be in place of the torsion bars... but which is better? coil overs or torsion bars???

Coilovers by far.

I'd like to see any sort of aftermarket suspension options for the gen1's, but there really isnt any, so its custom or stock :(

The reason I think there is some kind of option out ther for the rear suspension is that blue race car that was on ebay a little while ago... It had a red strut in the rear that wasnt stock, and I wonder who sells/sold it.

I just bought that blue car (1973 GL). I pick it up today. Hence, why I am on this forum now.:brow:

Those are koni adjustables in the rear. I don't know much more than that yet. I will be "discovering" these such things over the next few weeks.

There have to be plenty of options out there. It is not a complicated car and should be able to use parts from other cars without too much problem. the blue car weighs just 1500lbs so it needs to be pretty compliant in the rear since the weight distribution must be like 70/30. I can lift the rear of the car off the ground from the bumper by hand. lol
