Carlisle Camping/Hotel Stayover Post

Recommended Posts

Looking to camp/car sleep.

How about you guys?

Who's camped at Carlisle itself?

Cost there? - uh,I guess I can look that up

Ammenities? - shower is probably all I really care about, guess I can research that too but if you know the answers help me out.My "research" will probably be done late Thursday night.

If a few of you would like to make it a mini-camp meet maybe we can block out space at Carlisle or Gifford Pinchot,etc....

As I recall,there's no KOA nearby......correct me if I'm wrong.I think I'm still a KOA member.

I think there are showers at Carlisle. Similar probably to Pinchot Paul. Not sure on the cost etc but they should have it on their website I would think.

Pine Grove State Park is closer than Pinchot. Newville Exit off 81 and then 15 minutes up and over the mountain.

there are showers in the facility to the left (if youre driving into the fairgrounds from K street).

Ok, I paid for a camping spot on the fairgrounds. It is supposed to be 10' x 30' so it should be big enough that we could setup a few tents if needed. Mine is only a two or three person tent, but my fiance is coming so don't get any ideas. For me, if it rains we'll just sleep in the big 12 passanger van I'll be towing the race car down with. There are supposed to be showers somewhere on site.

 Man,they don't give up much info on the website

Camping:

Camping is available. Call (717)243-7855 for a fee schedule and to pre-register.

Do you know if you get to park a vehicle in that 10 x 30 spot?

Do you have a specific spot number?I'll see if I can get one next to it or close by.

I doubt they allow a fire,right?

Well,I guess I'll call tomorrow or Thursday.

The only info I had came from the registration page. I haven't really had much time to look into it otherwise.

I have been to carlisle pa a couple times....and there ARE a few showers on the grounds (plan on waiting in line) They supposedly do not allow fires.....but I have seen people have them in the enclosed metal outdoor fire thingies that people buy. :-\

My bro and I always go down in the fall, and they are pretty lax about the camping area that you get. We always have room to pitch the cabin tent and park a sube and a pickup truck. Sortof redneck:grin: . Wish I was goin with ya'll.

Not so friendly lady on the phone informs me that I'll need to take care of camping stay at the check in office. As far as this aspect of Carlisle goes they really stink at lending info. Can't find camping info online other than the fact that there is camping.Call their phone and if you get the recording it never mentions camping...you hunt for it but end up calling a second time and wait for a live human being to answer after pressing a number.

So,I took a ride up to my storage unit  and looked inside  hoping to see my sleeping bags within reach....:lol: ....looks like we'll take a comforter with us and pad the floor with moving blankets or something.I prefer to call it white trash instead of redneck, but that's just me.:D

My son really wants to camp at a park so we might do Pinchot on Saturday night.Oh,almost forgot....how late can we get into Carlisle on Friday night? That might have us at Pinchot both nights.Stay tuned....I'll call again tomorrow and hope for a nicer human to answer.

I think you can come and go all night but if you don't have your credentials (the stuff you get from the office when you get there) I'm pretty sure they won't let you in till morning.

Call me tomorrow and I'll ask when I get there (in the morning)

Well,we made it official.

We are booked at the Motel 6 Harrisburg....which is on Harrisburg Tpke juust three miles from the Carlisle Fairgrounds.

Kind of tough on the budget right now,but worth it in the long run.The rainy weather combined with the seasonal pollen spew has had my son suffering.Even with sleeping in a car it's just too nasty for him.

Checking in late tomorrow night.

Matt,I'll call you anyways just for kicks.

See you guys on Saturday.

Who's doing breakfast and where?????

Wanna meet early Saturday at a diner??

WTF???

You really do need to make it to one of these....

I guess this is just more incentive for all of us to get our buts to CT???

More incentive? I think less. As soon as she comes down here, I'll go to CT!

There's a place on 74 south I think its like Little John's or something like that. It is usually one of the top rated local "family style" restaurants in central pa. John should know how to get there as it is right across from the mall there.

Its ok Dave...not a biggy...I am so far out of the way now it isnt as easy to get to my house... If I got this right here is the deal...Andrew and Paul are coming together...I was not needed as an extra driver and I just dont trust driving my Loyale that far and back with his "iffies" that he has. I only have one car and if he goes down I am F%$@*&d. I also really dont have the money anyway.

I probably wouldnt be good company anyhow....been in such a funk cant find fun in anything anymore.

Oh and Ben.....you are probably right...but you know I am from down there...grew up in Middletown and then spent at least 10 years on Perry County.....Someday I will be able to make a trip down....when money and vehicle condition improve
