Guest oobnuker Posted August 15, 2003 Share Posted August 15, 2003 I just finished the rear disc conversion on my Loyale last night - woohoo! But the reason I am writing this, and one of the reasons for the conversions was that I couldn't get the drum hardware in the rear to settle down. A couple of months ago, I replaced the shoes and the springs, etc. back there with a kit purchased from Advance Auto. A few weeks ago, I went off to go to town and all of a sudden one of my rear wheels locked up HARD. I managed to limp it home, almost going through the window every now and then. When I got a chance to replace everything AGAIN, I noticed that the pins that hold the shoes in place had fallen out completely. All the mess inside the drum was just flapping around in there. Chewed up the shoes, etc. ... Got another set from - you guessed it, Advance Auto. Did the repair. This time it lasted about 2 weeks. Last night when I was in there to do the swap, sure enough the pins were GONE again. The whole assembly was just floating inside the drum, waiting to snag up and mess itself again. So - I don't know what it is, but something doesn't seem right with the rear drum hardware "kit" from Advance Auto. Just something to think about... Guest xenongod Posted August 15, 2003 Share Posted August 15, 2003 I...myself...have learned the hard way that buying replacement parts other than genuine Subaru parts is a waste of time and money. Bought brake pads from Autozone....overhauled the front brakes with the "lifetime guaranteed" pads from them...4K miles later...history...nothing left of them. Going to invest 80 bucks for genuine Subaru pads now and take back the the Autozone ones...and when they give me a new pair...going to sell them on eBay...just kidding...hrmmm...maybe not...hehe.:smokin: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CIS Subaru Posted August 16, 2003 Share Posted August 16, 2003 I just replaced my shoes on my Wagon, and I noticed that the hardware kit I got had two different lengths of pins to hold the shoes in. I suspect that if you used the longer pins, they would be more likely to fall out because they wouldn't be held in as tight. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
