NV Zeno
'83 EA81 non-turbo: After much procrastination, I've decided to finally replace my water pump. Got a replacement unit and gasket from NAPA. The "...Subaru Alive" book sez to use silicone gasket sealer, but I don't have any laying around. What I DO have is the spray-type "Copper Coat Gasket Compound". Will the copper stuff be OK to use for this application? I have no problem getting the silicone, I'm just looking to save a trip to the parts store:rolleyes: . Caboobaroo
best bet would be the silicone IMO. I don't know much about the copper spray though....
GeneralDisorder
I've used RTV many times - both with and without a gaskets. Never had one leak yet. Just don't use too much. 1/8" bead is more than enough. GD
TheSubaruJunkie
Dont think Copper spray is gonna give you that water tight seal the gaskets gonna want. Better play it safe and use the silicone. -Brian
