It's Alive, It's Alive!!!

well, got the spare ingine in the hatch runnin today.. aside from the oil pan, oil pump, oil pressure sending unit, valve cover gaskets leakin a little, it runs pretty decent.. a little valve tick but they are adjustable, so i figure i'll take it in and let someone else adjust the valves and that'll take care of the valve cover leak at the same time..

the new water pump should be in tomorrow (old one is good though) and i think i'll order a new oil pump and sending unit..

also had to put in a new cv axle to replace the one i broke.. that went well was only $65.. water pump i ordered was only $24

i used my original intake so i wouldn't have to mess with linkage and such, all went on nicely..

this spare engine sat for 2 years ( i am told) but hell it fired right up after i got the plug wires on right, didn't even smoke.. still doesn't smoke...

i can't figure out where 3 plugs go though.. they are just hangin, they originate from the area around the coil.. don't seem to affect anything so am not going to worry about'em...

fixed the tail lights while i was at it, the wires in the roof for the dome light were the ones shorting out thus kiling the tail lights and dashlights..

so i'm not too pissed off at this hatch anymore, just a little peeved.. all in all a good days worth of work with a happy ending:banana:

a snow meet sounds fun, deffinitely.. just let me know when, i know how to get to remington :D

surprizingly this engine was pretty clean, considering it sat for a couple years.. the old oil drained out at almost new consistency and was just a little blakc, no sludge, nothin.. i figure i'll run it a few hundred miles and change the oil and filter again.. the oil leaks are pretty wicked tho, drove it to work this morning, and the hole front of the oil pan was soppin with oil, along with the oil sending units drippin..

couldn't tell if the oil pan was acctually leaking or if it was just the oil pump and sending units spewing it back onto the oil pan..

Going to order a new oil pump and sendin unit today, so i can get that leak fixed..

but hell this thing runs better than the original (supposedly new shortblock) ever did.. plenty of power, no clunky rattles, vibrations, etc.. still has a little lifter clatter at about 1800rpm's, but nowhere near what the original had.. i can live with it now..

so its deffinitely back on the road again..:headbang::burnout::grin::clap:

Tony,

I am glad that engine worked out for you.

That car sat for at least four years that I had it, and probably a couple more from where I got it.

That goes to show you how bombproof the ea-81 engine is.

You did all this without a shop manual too. You are a pretty good shadetree mechanic. And you chose a good weekend.

I might be in for a snow travel as I am about 3 hours from you guys up there.

Later,

Mark
