seat mount repair

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what the best way would be to go about fixing this broken seat mount. The previous owner was a 350 pound powerlifter and I guess he plopped down into the saddle one too many times...

Already I have tried to hammer the broken piece back into shape so that it might match up to the rest of the mount again. Some needle nose pliers were also used to try to re-shape the mount as well.

My plan is to take a thin strip of 2" wide stainless steel and fashion a makeshift bracket in the hope of re-forming the mount. I'll try my best to bend it into some kind of useable shape that will completely wrap around the damaged area, then secure it with machine screws & nuts (drilling additional holes if necessary).

Is this a good idea, or do you think that a competent welder could fix the problem?
