So what's the skinny on black RX's?

Recommended Posts

I just found quite a find in town today... a black RX coupe, no body kit, just the lip and the wing. The car is in beautiful condition, has the FT4WD D/R in it.

So what's the deal with these rare cars? From what I understand they were made in the 89.5 model year ONLY. The 87 brochure shows a black RX wannabe, but this car I found has the gold trim and "RX" badging.

I put the usual "If you want to sell this, contact me" note on it, as well as a link to our site.

Anyone know how many of these cars were actually made?

It should have had the aero kit too, maybe it got damaged and they never replaced it. But yes these were only built the last half of the 89 model year run. They had special gold trim also. These are the rarest of the RXs. I don't think even Subaru knows how many they made.

I think the all white was even a '87.5 release. I have a Subaru Brochure that only has the RX 3 door and the XT including the FT turbo and it says "1987 1/2 XT and RX 3-Door Coupe" on the cover. I have a '87 RX sedan that is Mica Red and so I'm thinking the white sedans may have been released mid year with the debut of the coupes (also white) or colors were a option on sedans. I've seen '85 and '86 RX sedans in a number of different colors. I would sure like a black one....
