What brand of kits do you guys reccomend? And where to get them? Any experience anyone has had with rebuilding these specific types of carbs would be appreciated. Guest taprackready Posted November 12, 2003 Share Posted November 12, 2003 My favorite place when nobody else has it is NAPA. Price is $25 for the rebuild kit. Remember its not brain surgery. The carb is much misunderstood but it is actually easy to rebuild. Just take your time and read the instructions first. Air compessor is nice to blow out passages that may be blocked but a couple of cans of Berryman's Chemtool are just as good if not better. GeneralDisorder Posted November 12, 2003 Author Share Posted November 12, 2003 Yeah - I checked CCR's site for prices, but they want 100's of $$ for a rebuilt unit. For that much, I could actually get a new weber. What I'm wanting to do is just freshen up the carb a bit, and maybe get it to stop dying when cold, and get the idle back down to where it's supposed to be (it's about 1100 right now). Eventually, I'm planning on doing the SPFI coversion on this engine. And If I don't like that, I'll then put on a weber. But I do want to get my hands dirty on that SPFI conversion - it looks tasty. benebob Posted November 12, 2003 Share Posted November 12, 2003 I rebuilt mine when I bought my BRAT based totally on the directions in the Haynes book. I had no problems what-so-ever doing it even though I had never taken apart/have a clue how the carb works. Just followed the directions and put everything in baggies I numbered based on the numbers in the book. Then put it back together using the new stuff.
