13 inch rims on a justy?

Recommended Posts

am I correct in my thinking that 13 inch rims will fit a justy..

the tire store says there were two sizes of tires that came stock.. like a 145 80/12 and a 155/80/13?

so,

can a bone stock, unlifted (soon to be lifted tho), 4x4 justy, get 13inch rims on them? I need new tires soon, but not ready to do a lift, so I was thinking of finding some junkyard 4x100 rims with halfway decent 13inch rims...

let me know.

the 1990 and newer Justys (new body style) came with larger front brakes, and 13 inch wheels.

The justy's have a 4x100 bolt pattern, so most honda, VW, Toyota rims will fit. The only problem, is that the center hub for the justy is like 2 mm's too large. So you either need to machine the hubs, or machine the wheels.

The stock subaru justy wheels don't have this problem

I have an 88

so your 89 has 145/80 r/13...

I think I need to measure the profile of the rubber on there.. see how long/wide..

look for a 13inch rim with a tire that would fit under there... whats the equivalent to the 12 tires I have, size wise? My current rubber is 155/80 R12

Also, I have found out why I have a shudder at certain speeds..

My back driver side tire is a 145 R12 while there rest are 155..

can a 145 R13 fit in the spot...

thanks..

if you currently have a 155/80/12 than a 155/80/13 should fit exactly the same. this is how i understand the numbers system. the first number is the total circumference of the tire, the second is the percentage of the first giving you profile, the third is the diameter of the rim. if this is true than a 155/80/13 and a 155/8012 should be the exact same size.

ok this is what i found. i was incorrect as the first number being the circumference it is the width. the rest was correct. i can not stress enough how important that have four matching tires is important on a 4wd. (dependant upon front and rear gear ratios) for 13s that will be the same size (circumference) this is what i found If you want to run 13-inch wheels:

For 35-series tires, you will want a tire that is 318 mm wide

For 40-series tires, you will want a tire that is 278 mm wide

For 45-series tires, you will want a tire that is 247 mm wide

For 50-series tires, you will want a tire that is 223 mm wide

For 55-series tires, you will want a tire that is 202 mm wide

For 60-series tires, you will want a tire that is 185 mm wide

For 65-series tires, you will want a tire that is 171 mm wide

For 70-series tires, you will want a tire that is 159 mm wide

For 75-series tires, you will want a tire that is 148 mm wide

For 80-series tires, you will want a tire that is 139 mm wide

For 85-series tires, you will want a tire that is 131 mm wide

For 90-series tires, you will want a tire that is 124 mm wide

hope this helps Mark

also here are the 14 inch conversions, but i would think that most would rub.

If you want to run 14-inch wheels:

For 35-series tires, you will want a tire that is 282 mm wide

For 40-series tires, you will want a tire that is 246 mm wide

For 45-series tires, you will want a tire that is 219 mm wide

For 50-series tires, you will want a tire that is 197 mm wide

For 55-series tires, you will want a tire that is 179 mm wide

For 60-series tires, you will want a tire that is 164 mm wide

For 65-series tires, you will want a tire that is 152 mm wide

For 70-series tires, you will want a tire that is 141 mm wide

For 75-series tires, you will want a tire that is 131 mm wide

For 80-series tires, you will want a tire that is 123 mm wide

For 85-series tires, you will want a tire that is 116 mm wide

For 90-series tires, you will want a tire that is 110 mm wide

OK..from experience i can tell you this.

The stock 12 inch tire is a 145 R12. Which is roughly equal to a 145/80-12. This tire has a 21.1 diameter.

Now. the stock 13 inch tire is a 165/65-13. which has 21.4 Diameter. I believe that the cars equiped with 13 inc wheels came with a different speedo/gear.

Now..if you want to go with 13 inch tires.. Lots of luck trying to find something that fits and offers decent grip. There are 2 tires available on the market in 165/65-13. A really POS Kumho, and a POS bridgestone.

What i ended up doing for the summer is finding some 13x5.5 inch aluminum wheels off a celica. i bought Falken ZEIX-502 in 175/60-13. This is a PERFECT tire for the car. A little bit wider, and a nice sidewall height. Plus they look nice. The diameter of these tires is 21.6.

DO NOT make the mistake of saying. well a little bit bigger tire won't hurt and go with a 175/70-13. They will rub like crazy in the back (eat your bumper) and rub in the front at full lock (parking). You will rub int he back over every bump.

In the winter. I went with 155 R13, which is a bigger tire. but won't rub because it's narrower. But i'm also putting them on a wider rim.

14's forget it. There is not a tire made that will even be close. Plus you will rub, without a doubt

i have a '88 justy 2dr rs 4wd with 13" steel rims on it... tires are bridgestone blizzack ws-15, 185/70/r13m+s, 22.1"o/d... a bit big & wide, but i "modified" the rear fenders to fit better... it does still rub on big bumps, hard cornering, and full lock turns, but i only putt it around town and country roads... i'm trying to find a lift kit for the justy... mounting fog lights to the roof rack this weekend... :headbang:
