lowering driver's seat

Recommended Posts

i need to lower my driver's seat a few inches to make it more anatomically friendly as i am about 6'3''. the angle on my foot is killing me. does anyone have any bright ideas? i was just asking because i haven't ever checked out the bottom of a soob seat. i know i'll have a little fab work to do, but i was wondering if someone can picture what i'm saying and give me some tips on how to get the bastard down a couple/few inches.

I'm 6'5" and feel your pain, man.

I drive an '87 XT and a '92 Legacy wagon and have the seats slid back, steering wheel tilted up, and the seats pretty much upright although some tilt back on the seat will gain you some headroom. I feel pretty comfy, my head does touch the headliner a little, but not badly.

I always wanted to try some club type racing, but there is no way to drive with a helmet unless they allow me to have the helmet sticking out of the sunroof !

Perhaps if you take out the seat, make some custom brackets and bolt the seat right to the floor. Clean, quick, and permanent !

Since I also am 6'5, I put in some 2003 WRX seats hoping to quit losing scalp on my sunroof(damned air suspension) but while these seats kick butt, they ended up actually being a hair taller than my GL-10 seats! The front mounts are bolt in, the rear mounts you have to fabricate ... It will be dropped about 1" in the front and 2" in the rear in the next couple of weeks when I have time to move the ecu and I will take some photos..

The seats in my '86 RX Turbo Sedan are height-adjustable! Maybe you could find a height-adjustable seat from a junkyard/parts car Subaru and swap it in?

Here's a pic of the seats in my RX:

I don't have a pic of the height adjustment but it's a crank on the outside of the seat near the front.

Yeah, so do my 88 GL-10 seats... so does the WRX seats, the problem is that they adjust UP more than they do down. What I mean is if you are 6'2" or taller you are hosed even with the seats at their lowest setting. It is almost like the M.E. that designed them was 5'7" or something...

i bet he was shorter than that.

it's not head clearance that i need. w/my new seat cover i gain about a 1/2 inch-1 inch or so. even without the seat cover the angle that my feet hit the pedals fatigues my legs alot faster than most other cars. there aren't any XT in any yards in my area. i'm gonna be making a trip to cheyenne in a couple weeks and i'll check down there. i saw the XT seats and they look like they have alot of lateral suport.
