Fuel pump/wiring/other questions

Here's what's up: I am on the verge of purchasing two subarus. One is a 1987 ea82 4wd wagon w/ SPFI and 3AT tranny. This one needs a fuel pump for it to run but is otherwise good. The other is going to be a parts car and is a 1989 ea82 4wd wagon w/ SPFI and 5spd tranny. I want to fix up the auto-tranny car to sell and keep the other car for parts.

 

My questions are: Are the fuel pumps going to be identical or at least close enough to identical to be interchanged? Since the car has some electrical ghosts, I want to wire the fuel pump from scratch so I know it will work and not get fried. Where should I take power from for this? The driver's power window also works intermittantly, is this probably just loose wiring and how can I access the switches and motor easily? And finally, how should I go about fixing some superficial rust around a couple of the fenders? I'm thinking remove rusty metal, bondo, then spray with rustoleum paint that is similar to body color.

 

Any suggestions or comments on any of these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the pums should be the same, although the plug mat be different. the wire with the white stripe is positive, and the other is ground.

 

i have connected power for the fuel pump to the positive wire in the coil, so the pump is on with the key (carb motor). you could try that in an spfi, you should be ok. spfis dont like to spark much faster than 45oo rpms, because the fuel injection uses more available amps than a carbbed.

 

you could run it off the fuse panel with one of thos special clips to anything that is on in "acc" or "run" position.

 

or if you want to take the time and make it permanent, hook it to a toggle switch. make sure its on so the pressure sensor will pick up on it before you crank the motor
