Am I missing a skid plate?

Recommended Posts

I think I may be missing something.

Maybe a skid plat, there is four screws on the bottom of the push bar. or if there is not a stock peice, it will have one made...

btw... I have been driving it for two weeks and managed 26.5 MPG. Seems to work well. I bought some pug wheels from this guy, and hope to have new tires soon as i have all diffrent offsets on my current wheels and the car looks really funny with different offsets.

The stock skid plate was a small/lite weight pan that fastened to the crossmember and the the front radiator support.

The skid plate that goes with the optional push bar, was an accessory. It was a HUGE, VERY HEAVY and thick piece of steel, that fastened to the bottom of the push bar. It had holes in it to change the oil. (Although you would make the biggest mess trying to do it).

This skid plate was overkill and a PITA. It was the first thing I got rid of!! If one needs that heavy of a skid plate, you may save your engine, but you are destroying the rest of the BRAT!!!

You could make one though that was not so big, thick and heavy I guess. The stock skid plate is OK.

Your A bar looks a little different than the 3 Gen 1 A bars I have. Never seen those bars going through the middle before.. With those bars in the middle I doubt you could get the small skid plate that Todd was talking about up in there. I have a extra small skid plate sitting in my garage if interested.

I was curious.....I have a 1980 Brat, and the skid plate is gone off of mine also. Are there disadvantages to not having one on there? Taking into consideration that my Brat will probably never go off roading, (got a Jeep for that). I'm just wondering if I need to invest in one for any reason. Does it help keep the snow and slush and other such crud from flinging up into the engine compartment?

And by the way Daniel, if you (or anyone else) are interested, I have all the chrome, upper and lower, that goes down the sides of the Brat. When I painted mine, I opted to not re-install the chrome.

If you have the rocker trim pieces in super shape I'd pay the oversized shipping for them and good lunch/beer/wine money if you'd pack them up in a good strong tube or box.They're about 58" long if I remember right.The ones that have clips and sit below the doors,between the wheels.THis would be for a restoration,so if they have dings I really would rather not want them.Send pics if you'd like.

You don't need that skid plate.Let me be the only knucklehead to have one.:lol: Mine is off the car,but I do plan on painting it as they did come the same color as the body (the HUGE one did,not the typical smaller black style).It'll only be installed for shows.

Cheers

Hi Paul;

Sorry I haven't answered you sooner. Just got back into town late last night and finally got a chance to check the board. I will check the rocker panels today after work and let you know what kind of shape they are in. If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I looked at them), they were in pretty good shape. Probably just need to be polished up a little. Talk to you soon....... Bobby
