Air valve do-hickey symptoms

OK, the turbo is acting funny agen(imagine that:eek: ) NOT funny "Ha ha" but funny"I'm gona shoot that car:temper: "

It will not idle, if I take my foot off the gas it will die, acceleration is bad, acts like a carb with a bad acselerator pump. And it's a bi#$h to get started. I have to hold my foot to the floor while crancking the engine for 10-15 seconds. The fule pressure is good(@ the fule rail) I THINK it's getting good spark(it will rev up, but I have no way of knowing how good the spark is) So I'm wondering if it might be air related:eh:

well, i swapped the maf, rewired the coil, found a vacuum line off (didn't do anything tho) messed with the vacuum on the cruise control..

the only thing swappin the maf accomplished, is when the engine is cold, it fires right up.. otherwise, when its warm, ya gotta floor it still to get it to start, then keep it runnin for 15 sec or so for it to idle..

with this maf tho, its got no ballz, its pretty flat between 3-5k, then it picks up a little for that 1k before redline..:banghead:

so i have no friggin clue whats wrong with it now.. its still got that funky miss when accelerating, kinda like a plug doesn't fire in one cylinder ocasionally, is what it feels like.. i know this maf is good, cause my wagon never once had a problem, and always started and ran like a stripped :moon: ape

i did notice theres a little black box uner the steering column, its got a red light that flashes.. 3 long flashes 3 short flashes.. not sure what that means.. my ECS light is still on too :madder:

when the part store opens tomorow, i'm gonna go get new plugs, and rotor. ( igot an oem cap already, and accell 8mm wires and accell coil) i might even swap in my 2wd disty and see what happens.. i've had the funny itch that somethings amiss in the disty....

will post back after i do all that tomorrow...

on a good note i fixed my wheel bearing today too

Ok..

Meeky, if you have a turbo wagon(or any other FI soob), you should have a working knowledge of what that 'little black box under the steering column' is..Its the ECU

Three short, three long.. code 33.. coolant temp sensor or circuit. would explain hard starts and crappy running. try locating it and cleaning the contacts. I have had to do that a few times now. on my turbowagons.

Tony.. Have you checked your ECU for error codes.. your symptoms are also reminiscient of a coolant temp sensor problem.

okie doke, will try that.. since i don't have any manuals for this thing, i couldn't tell what the code was.. i'm assuming its that sensor right on top of the thermo housing?

heh, good to see another Tony on the board.. this thread kinda gets confusing, i'm sittin here thinkin wait, I'm Tony..

Ebayers beware!! next 85 FSM's that pop up are mine!! if you bid, it'll be an all out bidding war :dead:

thanks for tellin me what those flashs mean Calebz:headbang:

well i cleaned the connector, ecsd light went away, starts right up now.. but it runs like a yugo.. very sad.. its poppin through the intake somewhere almost like a backfire.. won't do over 60mph.. and i noticed the temp gauge runnin on the hot side...

but in my questing to figure what the hell is wrong with this thing, i found a broken sensor.. it sits behind the intake manifold, screws into the block, and the disty wireing harness pluges into it.. any idea what this is??

i'm swapping in my 2wd disty too btw..

broken sensor was a knock sensor.. jury rigged a broken one in there, and swapped my 2wd disty into the car...

runs good as new now.. on inspection of the old disty, there were some physical problems inside of it.. metal on metal type things.. you could spin it with your hand and listen to the metal hit each other "click click click"...

thanks for the info all
