Guest bcnyc
I have a '97 Subaru Legacy wagon, 140K miles, 5speed, clutch replaced around 110K. Over past 2 months, the gear shifter "rattles." If I push it a little to the left or right, it stops making noise. I mostly notice this when in 4th or 5th. It's not too loud, if I play the radio, it isn't noticeable. No other obvious problems, no clutch slippage, it stays in gear, etc. I pulled off the shifter boot, but there's nothing there to tighten. Is this an indicator of a major tranny problem, or should I just learn to live with it?
