I would like to know as much as possible about this conversion, if it's even possible. I am planning on hooking up a 20R Toyota motor to my stock EA82 tranny and running gear. On the other hand you won't need to pull the engine to do headgaskets, and they're just as reliable. I think the 20R makes about the same HP, probably a little more torque. If I were to put in a Toyota plant, I'd just use a good old solid axle RWD/PT4WD setup. Not many people here have had much success hooking up Subaru transmissions to other engines. Toyota's are awesome cars too, so if you want a Toyota engine and drivetrain, just buy a Toyota. if you want to stick with the wagon setup, try to find one of the 4WD Camrys. I like this Idea, and my wagon has a 6 inch lift, so swapping the Toyota running gear would just be a matter of fabrication. As for everyone else who says just buy a Toyota, I like the Subaru body styles better, but Toyota running gear is known for it's durability. monstaru Posted July 31, 2007 Share Posted July 31, 2007 the 22rt would be the way to go.but , you would probably need another 6 or so inches.,cause those motors are tall.the running gear you are right on.there are two major problems,the first being the motor height,and the second being the starter placement on either....it is reversed.toyota is on the passenger side.i already went through this one,until i just bought a complete frame and decided to hook an ej22 up to the toyota transfer case.
