Is there a cam position sensor on the '97? Since I assume that is around the time that they went from obd1 to obd2 and also some of the subie engines went from non interferance to interferance engines.

 

Subaru was partially OBDII in 95, and I believe fully OBDII in 96. That is why the 95 EJ22 will swap in place of any 96-98 EJ25.

I second that. They will deff work. You are goind to have to run 96 plug wire though with the square boots, and get the valve cover gaskets for the 96 heads as well. You will see the difference in the spark plug tubes. But a plus is you gain the cool 16V DOHC valve covers that you really cant see anyway :clap:
