Interesting find..........so does anybody know?

Recommended Posts

While doing my second head gasket replacement on my 2000 legacy, the first performed by the dealer on the extended warranty plan in Dec of 2003, my Subaru specialist informed me that the gasket that was used for that repair was in fact the original style gasket. As the dealer only replaced the side that was leaking, the drivers side, the two gaskets that were replaced yesterday matched, telling me that the old style was used and not the updated version.

My question to anyone out there is when was the newer gasket available and under the extended warranty was the newer and improved gasket supposed to be used.

The longer this headgasket issue goes on the worse Subaru looks, the coolant conditioner is just a bandaid intended to get those at risk vehicles past the extended warranty period at the least amount of cost to Subaru.

There was a new HG out in 2003. I think your blaming subaru for a dealers error. The dealer should have sent back or trashed all the old stock, instead he decided to use it.

Many people here have had the HG issue resolved and a handful had them fail again. Causes were 1- not milling the heads (very impoortanat even if it looks fine) 2- Using non OE parts

Subaru can sell the deale as many new HG as they want, its up to the dealer to not use the superceeded design.

This is a dealer error.

First off, you ABSOLUTELY can hold Subaru of America responsible for the actions of one of their AUTHORIZED dealers. Otherwise, "authorized" means nothing.

Second, hold onto that head gasket. The dealer had an obligation to use the latest rev gasket. If you can't get satisfaction from SOA, you may be able to sue the dealer. It your claims are true, it sounds like unbelievably sloppy and lazy work on the part of the dealer.

Havent you noticed that authorized really does mean nothing these days.
