LUVMYBRAT
I'm curious, I enjoy reading about all the things that are done to enhance performance of our subes, I've only just started to tweek my brat,( chrome accel super coil, and 185/80/13's,custom rollbar with 5"lights,3" lift in progress). Question is I,ve seen a thread or two about disty mods but have'nt stayed on top of it to know anything. What can you do to upgrade on a 85 brat ?(e81 right?) 4spd d/r. all info is much appreciated,I love this site:wave:
Guest taprackready
i've been told you can modify the mechanical advance mechanism. I haven't tried it but was told that you remove one of the springs that controls the weights and it will advance quicker giving you more power/torque at low rpm's. gbianchi
they say a 2wd disty has abetter advance than the 4wd version I have swapped a 2wd version into my 84, but its vacume advance is fubar so I don't think its helping me out so much:mad:
Rooinater
i had a 2wd disty for awhile. not very noticable improvment. slight but not very reconizable. then i hooked a higher energy coil up and it burned up the electronics on the disty. GeneralDisorder
Apparently - acording to the FSM, the 4WD's have a better torque curve. Curtesy of Skip I beileve for this info. Maybe he'll chime in.. GD

Guest taprackready
You just need to experiment. Advance it until it starts to ping then back off slightly-gives a seat of the pants diffenence in low end power. Try using full manifold vacuum vs ported vaccum on the vacuum advance and see if you like the difference. Both mods are easy to do and can but put back to stock configuration if you don't like the results. Bill
GeneralDisorder
Take it to a distributor shop and have it recurved. I'm sure they will get better results that you could ever get with removing springs and stuff. GD
