Its a long wait, but well worth it, WBII is Alive

I am feeling an overwhelming sense of bliss and achievement with strands of thanks twisted and soldered all through.

The Wonder Brumby II is alive!

I have unleashed 210kw of AWD dual range power upon the unsuspecting tarmac of the East Coast of Tassie.

Groover lost traction in the tray and slipped uncontrollably towards the tailgate @ exactly 3500 rpm, precisely when I said ohshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitwhooooah.

Boost came on, obviously.

Lots.

I got near ¾ throttle!

Summary for the newbs….

Wonder Brumby, 89model, 50mm lift, large black bars, very wide tyres, (stupidly infact) and now ……. A 1996 AHEM. wrx donk with all the fruit.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand a nasty Japanese ecu (notice the capital letter for the very first time)

which basically spits fire at the TD05.

Thanks guys.

OHMYGODwhenitcomesonboost,

So happy it is hard to describe, I am now off the nasty korean hook.

You see, If my WBII was not operational by the birth of our child..(due grand final weekend for poor sad AFL fans)..

I had to give up completely, the Subarus and drive the spare car.

Permanently.

A 1997 daewoo lanos.

Hatch.

Can you spell incentive?

I have just returned from the official lap of Cranbrook (2 miles or so, 5 houses) and The beautiful ONE is satisfied…thankfully.

No woo for me.

It's a EJ20, pre 1996 JDM engine..

TD05, Mines Tuned ECU, 2 1/2 " straight through exhaust,

a 210kw or 285hp package.

It is tuned and happy.

ECU's FTW.

Winter in Tassie is no time for working outside on cars.

Days are too short and its damp and cold after hours.

I have less hours to tinker, no time to experiment at all.

I need a better shed.

I have just put a tank of Ultimate in her, (98 octane @ $1.54 a litre) Its just getting smoother and quieter.

The tune is pretty aggressive, boost comes on hard, very hard.

My good Lady and I are 7 1/2 months pregnant, care with the throttle is needed.

I have a heap of cosmetic stuff to do (flares, grill, tidy up of loom etc),

then some runs down the airstrip are in order!

Then pictures, and video.

Thanks for all the kind words,

Matt

Oh Groover is SO happy the Ute is back.

That some pretty serious offset of those rear wheels.. Looks good though. You going to get flairing or swap those wheels for different ones?

It's funny, I look at your car and see so much similar to mine.

Big "sports bar"

rotting plastic coupe dash

aftermarket steering wheel

bullbar

But some things don't line up with mine, like the turbo under the hood, huge awesome tyres, and what looks like a working CD player!

Did the Brumby's not come with that style dash down under?
No, it looks very similar to the standard one. The coupes insturment cluster extends further left where the clock is and it also has a tacho which was never even an option for the Brumby as far as I know. The guy who put the coupe dash in my Brumby (previous owner) said it was a huge pain the butt and he would never ever do it again and suggested that no one ever do it either, eheh... Lucky me.

  • 4 weeks later...

Dalton, the 225's are excessive for an 18 year old vehicle with a lift kit.

They grip like no tomorrow, don't get me wrong, just that 215's would do the job and probably better.

I am growing up and slowing down, it is very hard to miss things with almost half a metre of tyres on the road; the flip side is it's also very hard to get a clean line off road (missing stuff also).

Getting this vehicle past registration engineers is my quest.

It is a mean feat, tough rules to follow but it makes for safer cars on the road....Cough (says ME..the Black Kettle).

And... the 225's are deadly slippery on our gravel roads (which are made of little round rocks like bearings) the thing just floats on it, like aquaplaning on a really wet road, needs serious throttle to keep straight.

Just trying to get this vehicle perfect,

For Me!

Best wishes to all

Matt

Totally know what you mean.. But the only way to stop that is go down to 195 or get some better tread (M/T, or rally) I reckon
