I ASK THIS BECAUSE I'VE GOT AN 82 BRAT AND AT 70 MPH I'M TURNING 4000 RPM THATS WITH 185/80/13. WHILE MY BUDDY HAS AN 85 HATCH AND 175/70/13S AND HE DONT TURN THAT MANY RPMS. NV Zeno Posted December 6, 2003 Share Posted December 6, 2003 I believe there were two different 4-speeds used in the EA81 series. The earlier models had a 4th gear that was geared lower (more RPM at a given speed). I think it was in the 1983 and later EA81's that the 4th gear was a lot "taller" than before, giving less RPM. Posted December 6, 2003 Share Posted December 6, 2003 Yup, when I thrashed the 4spd in my Brat (82) I replaced it with one from an 84, serious difference in the top speed, 82= 65@like 4K 84=65@3.6K.
