What does this Relay Control? --Edited-

Recommended Posts

-Edit-

So what are those two relays by the vac. can. on the pass. side strut tower??

-End Edit-

There are two relays by the vacuum canister that the climate control system uses. Are these also for the climate control? It seems I have lost power to my cliamte control. Fuses all check out fine but all of a sudden none of the climate control settings work. The blower fan doesn't turn on and there is no difference when switching between any of the settings. Defrost Heater Bi-Level AC, none of them do anything. Is this a relay problem?? All help is greatly appreciated.

PS - I noticed this after installing a new car stereo. It is possible that I could have inadvertently knocked something loose in the dash. But wanted to rule out relays before I pulled the stereo back out.

Just did this earlier today!!

Under the driver's side of the dash.Take down the panel.Take the fuse box down but no need to disconnect.Look up,you'll see 4 relays all the same. The heater/fan is the one with the to the left on my '87 wagon. It's the one with the smaller wires, not the thicker black wires.

When you take the relay out you'll see that 2 of the 4 prongs are blueish-shorted out-toast!!!.

Enjoy!!

If you need known good relays I'll be happy to send you one.Email me if you do want one.

I'll check them out and see what they look like. Thanks for the offer. I'll be in touch if need be. All this rain up here in Oregon, its hard to keep you windows from fogging without a defroster.

On another note, does anyone know what those two relays behind the pass. side strut tower are. They are with the vac. can. for the cliamte control.

GB, the fact that none of the positions work (bilevel defrost ect) is not from a bad relay. You must have disconnected the vacuum feed to the control panel. When the controls are in the off position the blower fan will not run.

Is the vacuum reservoir for the dash control, or vac can, connected properly.

The two relays you ask about are for the AC system, one for the AC compressor the other for the rad fan.

Hope this helps

Uhh,like I said,I had the same problem and it was indeed the relay. The prongs were absolutely noticeably blueish and toasted out.Perhaps a short developed somewhere causing the same result.

All I know is that I have HEAT!!! and love it!!

I also NOW have A/C,Def.,BiLevel.
