sorry to do a cut and past on this one but my friend jay has just such a way with words i felt it only best to use his exact ones

Edge of the Rock RallyX, Mount Washington

Well, at least one RallyX should be happening this year on Mount Washington. The lot has been booked and the planning is progressing for the weekend of September 22/23.

We have permission this year to camp on the mountain as well, so we can keep the costs down and have a good party.

Entry fee is still be worked out, but at least you can book the weekend and get ready to come out and play.

I will keep you all posted.

jay

on a personal note, the drive is easy enough that i should be able to see a good number of you confirmed and going that the cost should be well worth the effort.and for those of you that are able, its much much easier to get though the border crossing by taking the port angeles ferry then it is to drive through the piece arch or truck crossing.

cost of the event at the moment will be $50 cnd per day

camping will be available on the mountain very near the event sight...

on a personal note....i will finally have my own set of gravel tires

Why do you feel it's easier? I need a ferry ride as well as about 2-1/2 hours to get to the Port Angeles ferry dock. I can be in Tsawassen in about 2-1/2 hours and have never spent more than 45 minutes at the Truck Crossing adjacent to the Peace Arch location and that was unusual. I'm not trying to create an argument here, but can you expand on it a bit more. I'm not sure if that weekend is free for me yet, but I'd certainly come up for it if I could. I don't plan on bringing my mud tires but hope to have a nice set of rally tires mounted by then. Any information your friend Jay has on classes, if any, would be appreciated. I run a pretty stock '97 Impreza L with fancy tires which puts me into Prepared AWD class down here.

for you ed, it wouldn't be easier. because of where you live it would actually be quite a bit of a longer drive. but to answer your question...there are a limited number of cars that can take the port angeles ferry which typically means, for me anyways, a much shorter wait.

from my experience last year at mnt washington your better off with something like gravel tires, if you have a softer compound tire it will likely get cut up...but that was last year it may be better now

whether or not we have classes will depend on the number of cars that are confirmed going. for the most part we run four classes. stock 2wd stock 4wd and then the equivalent prepped classes which you get into just by having decently aggressive tread. no real big changes from what you guy's do just lower numbers.

oh and while i'm thinking of it...button things down!!! we don't have that much of an issue with noise but if something doesn't look safe, it wont run.

they are a previously loved set of silverstone rally s-505 (14/55 13) that may actually have more years on the road then i do!!! but hey its better then what i had at the brooklyn bash
Nothing wrong with used Silverstones. Lots of us use them; no longer suitable for the "big guns" but great for a few more seasons of rallycross.

Just to throw in my two cents. I'm still trying to justify going to the event. I think it would be great fun and if I understand it correctly, it's a two day event (correct me if I'm wrong). My problem is taking a weekend away from my wife to go play (with her car yet! ). Anyway, if I can make it a "get-away" weekend for her at the hotel where she can relax while I play, I'm up for it. It's easier now that PRG has cancelled their September RallyX due to a scheduling snafu. How long a drive is it to Mt. Washington from the Nanaimo Ferry terminal? I looked at the map and it looks like quite a ride.

ed...from the nanaimo ferry its about 1.5-2.5h drive depending on your speed (it takes me a grand total of 3-3.5h from victoria). expect to spend about 30min of that driving up the mountain itself (its kinda steep) the over all drive is easy and considerably flatter then the sections of i-5 that i've been on

as for hotels, courntey would actually be better then staying at the resort itself and that purely due to the cost of the hotel. last year i stayed at one of the chalets (125 cnd per night) and while it was a nice room there was nothing really to justify the cost. unfortunately i cant speak to the value of the local towns (ie courntey or comox) but surely there is better dollar value. however both have very nice beaches and this time of year the weather is mild and good for walks.

yes it is a two day event which due to our own issues will also serve some kind awards "ceremony" on the sunday

may be two two day events next year.

Cool, I know I shouldn't decide when you hold your events, but if one of them could be scheduled during the summer so my wife is out of school. Then I could schedule a "get-away" weekend with her while I play in the mud with you guys!:)
