myossfeece Posted December 7, 2003 Share Posted December 7, 2003 No leaks? maybe plugged up. try removing drain pulug and put a garden hose in to radiator with engine runnin and hose turned on. Are you sure your thermostat is opening? Any fans, electric or clutch, that are working properly? does it over heat while driving down the road? good luck with an uncooperative radiator. MaroonDuneDoom Posted December 7, 2003 Author Share Posted December 7, 2003 i have a couple little leaks somewhere. the thermostat is opening just fine. it always runs at or very close to the red. i'm only driving out of neccessity right now. the garden hose in the radiator doesn't sound like too good of an idea. wont this water hurt the engine at all. well, maybe not. people used to use just water. i broke my electrical fan in my first front ender where i went over a boulder that was a half inch taller than the underside of the bumper. i went right up over it all drunken off-roading at midnight and put a fat ripple right down the pass side. nothing broke except the sensor for the fan. i rigged the mechanical one from the JY and it spins all the time. the radiator just isn't getting hot but the side and hose from the t-stat are. Well, actually, it'll corrode the softest parts (Al) first. You really need an electrolytic substance in your coolant. In the absence of such, physics will dictate the corrosion of an anode. Danbob99 Posted December 9, 2003 Share Posted December 9, 2003 Sounds like your thermo is stuck closed, your radiator gets hot on only one side becuase the thermo bein closed doesn't allow the water to criculate. MaroonDuneDoom Posted December 13, 2003 Author Share Posted December 13, 2003 alright, i'm telling you it's not the thermo. the hose from the t-stat housing to the radiator will be cold when engine is cold. i even started it cold and warmed it up straight from the throttle body w/one hand on the hose until i felt it come through. the thermo opens. what i don't get is how in the hell could it cool last summer w/100 degree weather and now that it's freezing out it can't cool sh!t. doesn't it take years for a radiator to clog up? it shouldn't have happened in 3 months. i just don't get it. Could be that the hose has failed internally, (delaminated), and is causing blockage of flow into the water pump. Seen it happen more than once. vwbuge Posted December 13, 2003 Share Posted December 13, 2003 If it always runs at red or very close than I think it has always been screwed up. You need to look at your cooling system very carefully. It may be worth the time to take things apart and look at them i.e., thermostat. I think the problem is the water pump. I took one off a car one time that was shot. It did not leak but the guy complained that the car ran fine at speed and stayed cool. But as soon as he stopped it started to overheat. MaroonDuneDoom Posted December 14, 2003 Author Share Posted December 14, 2003 i've got a new theory that when i hit the front end, it knocked a bunch of sh!t loose in the radiator and that is how it plugged up so fast. someone told me that it looked tweaked. i'm gonna re-core the radiator and replace the water pump on monday. hopefully that will fix my problem :fingerscrossed: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

MaroonDuneDoom Posted December 14, 2003 Author Share Posted December 14, 2003 ey timmay! do you know anywhere on-line that i can get that radiator? i know its not the temp guage because it will overheat and DIE!!!!!!! i have it down to only two possiblr problems; the radiator or the water pump. i am gonjna replace both for d\good measure. i know i could find out whick one is giving me trouble, but they both need replaced. oh, one more thing guys, my reserve tank is a little above max and it doesn't seem to be lowering at all when the coolant level decreases. help?
