bluesbug
I just bought a really nice 84 EA81(hyd valves,90K,good comp etc)out of a GL10. The motor is complete except for the distributor. I have a good hitachi distributor out of a 82 GLX(EA81,1.8). Will this dist work with this motor?
PHATBRAT
If I remember correctly, an GL-10 is an EA82 model. Look on the front passenger side of the engine to see what it says. As long as they are BOTH EA81's it should work.
Skip
Boz they did make an EA81 GL 10, and you are correct the distributor should work with the engine. 82 was they last year of the fuel pump control unit tied to the dist But this distributor should have the built in ignitor and only require it's two wires be connected to the coil. Lot of early EA81 grurus out there, please correct me if I am mistaken.
Qman
The '82 disty will work if you use the coil and igniter from the '82. The '82 uses an external igniter instead of the internal like the '83 and newer. And I have an '84 GL10 coupe sitting in my driveway. PHATBRAT
Yeah, I wasn't sure. I remember a thread not too long ago about the "GL-10" and thought someone said they were EA82's only. Sorry for the misinformation. Boz
Skip
Thanks for the correction Ken, That was a strange year for the Subaru spark system. Thanks again for the correction.
Qman
The '82 had lot's of little qwirks. Not sure why but it sure kept things interesting.
