What an awesome deal! I'm so glad to see you guys get it out of the junk yard. If it was near me, I would've loved to have bought it. (I do need to get rid of some toys though). I absolutely love the heater system. I hadn't noticed it until I looked at the pictures several times......I guess it eliminates the possibility of the heater core spewing all over your feet.

Contacted the yard again today, the car will go for $250. The tow was an abandoned car and has no key, and will have to be a salvage title. Sounds like we may be able to work out a weekend extraction.

That's a sweet car... I found a 4 door in a yard here about 5-6 years ago and I asked about it, he said $100 and it was mine, went back about 2 weeks later with the money and he said "Oh, that car's gone, crusher was here yesterday":dead:

Needed a turn signal lens and a rear quarter window, but everything else was there...

I used to go to Lake Almanor when I was like, 8 with my grandparents.. Then the campground changed hands and the ppl who bought it were bung munches so we quit going :-( Kinda sad, I had a lot of fun there.

This car is pretty safe, their crusher is busted and the yard opperator is holding the car for me. I will be in there Mon. sealing the deal and getting the car out, hope I can do it in one day. I will also be helping out Steve by transporting it down to him, (looks like Thursday Steve) in an effort to secure the car as soon as possible.

I would like to apologize if I have stepped on any toes with this effort, my intentions were to provide assistance and not control this transaction, and I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. Personally I am pleased with the outcome so far :) .

Hondasucks; Wife and I bought property here at Lake Almanor about 9 years ago when Real Estate was in the toilet, we probably couldn't afford to buy here now. It's beautiful up here, and feel very fortunate to have been able to retire here. The big forest fire in this area started about 20 mile east of us, and moved east, away from us, burning over 65,000 acres of prime forest, fortunatly few stucture were in its path. It was 100% contained on Saturday. When you live in the forest, wildfire is a serious threat.

Ya, I was kind of concerned about that fire when I first read you were up there at Almanor... We had a few days down here in the valley last week when the smoke from that fire completely filled the valley like a thick layer of fog, it was quite horrible to be in, hard to imagine being that close to it.

Thanks for all your help Darrell :) It was my goal as well to save this car as quickly as possible.

I promise to everyone else that I will be keeping a detailed log including LOTS of photos and videos of the car from day one. After all, a car like this if for everyone on the forums to enjoy, its just that important!

It's on a trailer in front of my house in Lake Almanor. I took some picts. of getting the car out of the yard, go here: http://picasaweb.google.com/dpdarnell/FF1Extraction

It took a little longer than I expected, the car blocking it had stearing locked and was also locked in park. It, as well and the ff1 had flat tires that had to be addressed. I now have problems with the trailer  and will not be able to deliver it to Steve when planned, maybe Friday or Saturday.

Happy happy,joy joy.....

Just a reminder that I am more than likely the one person with the most manuals and parts for this car on the planet. ;)

Those service manuals are what you need for now. I also have the Parts Manuals.

Give it a good looking over and make that list.

There's at least two others in the PNW,one a two door, one a four door.

No, I havent forgotten you :) I plan on making a short list this weekend after going over the car thoroughly, then cleaning up the car as best as possibly before making a full list.

I do know the first thing that it may need are those "vents" on the d-pillars... Those are obviously missing :P

I have saved 2 cars from the junkyard. There is something "special" about extracting a nice car that was put there for some stupid reason! I'm so glad you all saved this. It's beautiful!!!! You can almost see the car crying as it's pulled on the trailer....it's SOOOOOO happy!

Keep us all posted.

I share this nice man's sentiments. And between all the warped love we have here, and minimal parts resources,we will all help to make this car the showpiece of the Historic Forum. :headbang:

Never, never, never let this car go unless it goes to someone who you are sure will cherish it.

Of all the stock we bought in that barn deal last year I would say there's roughly $1000 worth of parts for this car. (prices when new)

Before you read this list please keep in mind that my close friends here have the rights to items firstly for their ff-1 wagons.

Some of the items I most likely have for the ff-1 2door:

bumpers !!!! :)

turn signal lenses

tune up parts

heater duct

front grill

some emblems

might have that side vent cover !!!!! ;)

Charlie in CT took the fender-not sure which side. And he might have a hood too. But yours is solid,so you should be able to work with what you have.

I/we do not have upholstery or dashboards, etc. Most of the stock I have is high replacement parts.

Also keep in mind that I cannot take an order and fill it very soon. The old stock is all in boxes and I will be getting to it over the fall and winter.

Super special thanks to workinwood !!!!!!!!!!! :headbang:

Team player !!!!!!!!! :headbang::banana:

I really need a good close look at the car to get an idea of what it needs...

The front bumper looks toast. Driver side window will need replacing. That rusted fender may be save-able, I doubt a replacement will ever show up anyway...

But I'll make sure to send you the list ASAP, and I don't have any expectations for ETA or anything of the sort so don't worry about that.

Super special thanks to workinwood !!!!!!!!!!! :headbang:

Oh for sure! I owe darrell big time for his help with this :)

I was fully prepared to rent a truck and trailer and take a day off to pick up the car during the yards business hours, but workinwood's offer to pick up the car for me and deliver it was WAY more than I could have ever asked for!

This project is 100% a result of his efforts, no doubt about it! :):clap::clap:

I get so happy when I read another post about this car! My 360 Pick up was used and abused before I got it (probably headed to a similar fate). The guy I got it from had his kids driving it in the woods and hitting trees....intentionally. Which is the main reason for this post......my front bumper was worse than the one on that car (rear one also), and I sent it to Faith Plating in CA and when I got them back, and I opened the box, and peeled off the plastic.....I ALMOST FELL ON THE FLOOR! I don't know about other chrome shops, but I doubt anybody could have done a better job. It would be worth it for you to call them and maybe see if they can give you a quote based on a picture. I think I paid $330 for both bumpers on my truck. I don't know how much difference there is in the chrome on Subaru bumpers from 69 to 70, but the chrome that Faith Plating did is far better than stock on a 69 pick up. Just a thought on NOS versus re-chromed.

Great to see an FF-1 being saved! Good luck Kostamojen! It will be great to see this project progress via USMB.

Jonv23, I couldn't agree more. Subaru chrome is not the best. When I first looked at my 1400 coupe the front bumper was toast! Looked like it had been wrapped around a pole. A coupe of days later when I went to pick up the car the previous owner had decided to straighten the bumper for me . Needless to say, the kid made a real mess. Fortunately there is an electroplaters business where I live that specialises in fixing bumpers (seems to be a dying trade - most bumpers being plastic these days) For $250AU the bar was perfect and the chrome so deep and 'full' looking I had to have the rear one done as well!
