Bucky92 Posted September 26, 2007 Share Posted September 26, 2007 I think I am going to try and replace the tank on my Imp..but my online search came up with nothing nada zilch...All I could find is to go directly through subaru and honestly...I dont want to spend $417 for one . I tried all the normal resources Rock Auto etc.The closest junkyard wont sell tanks and pokes holes in them. You would think it wouldnt be so hard to find something for a dang Impreza would you? My local yard does not puncture the tanks - they remove them (to drain the contents) and set them in the back of the car. So they are ripe for the picking. I'm not sure on the price, but even with shipping it can't be anywhere near $400.... the only difficulty is finding a Imp tank - mostly I see 96 and older Legacy's but I have seen a few Imps from time to time. Shipping costs are 10% of the order. I just bought from them a couple weeks ago and I'd do it again. Most of the time they pull the back seat up and take the senders out to drain subaru tanks. They don't keep inventory or ship, so you'd have to go look. I just checked the site again at: https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/policy.html and it still says 10% shipping costs for UPS ground. The only 15% I see is for a restocking fee. It's an online salvage yard database nationwide. You can search the entire country or by state. Even if you don't find a tank, you can at least find yards that list your make and model car (by searching other parts) and give them a call or send an E-mail (tip, search yards in the south that should have rust-free stuff). They don't necessarily list every part online, so you may not see a gas tank even though it's available. You can also try http://www.junkyarddog.com. It's similar to car-part.com except you make the request via online form, and it is mailed out to salvage yards and they respond back to you via E-mail. You will get a lot of generic replies though, some of them will not even mention the part you are looking for or how much they want. They will just tell you to call them.
