EA81 Convertable??

Recommended Posts

It's kinda both.

I believe dealers were sending these out to be "converted" back then and selling them at the Dealership as a new car.

I have only seen the 2 door sedans converted:mad:

Try a search on Convertable on this forum?

Either way they are keepers!

Glenn,

82 Hatch, now a convertable......

01 Forester, hard top..........

Richie has pics on his Web site. I just posted about these too--found one about 20 minutes away that the owner might be willing to part with. It's an auto GL-10. From what I understand, about 300 were made in So. Cali by a firm that makes convertible tops. The tops are still available. The one on the one I found is power, but I don't know if they all are. I believe the cars used were all 1983 models (I've never seen/heard of one with a GLF badge) but they were made between '82-'84. SoA did NOT authorize them, nor did they carry any convertible-specific parts (tops and upper framework, tiedowns and such).

There is (was) supposedly one here in Columbus, OH, and it was up for sale a couple months back.

Never got a chance to see it - the dude never returned my dozen or so calls. Very dissapointing....

I suspect it may have been owned at one time by Buddy Byers, the big Subaru dealer in town. OHNoah once told me about a customized Sube he saw that was owned by this guy. Maybe it started out as a limited model brought in to increase showroom traffic.

Thank you

How would you go about doing a homemade convertable 'conversion' on a old suby? im assuming it could be done on a coupe relativly easily, or am i wrong?
