Ive got it bolted back in, that wasnt easy.

I got the axles in.

Now I want to bolt the torque converter to the drive plate. To do so I have to align the bolts with the holes by turning the motor.

THE MOTOR WONT TURN. :| :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o">

how you trying to turn it?

You should be able to put a big breaker bar on the front crank pulley and turn the motor.

This might not apply, but here goes.

In most older GM cars the torque converter has to be "set" in proper place by pushing it in and turning it until it goes all the way in.

I have a 90 subaru transmission (spare) that I had to move the other day and the torque converter slid out a bit.

I pushed it back in and turned it a little and it seemed to seat up into the tranny housing.

My first guess( only actually) is that when you were reinstalling the tranny the torque converter slipped forward on the shaft then when you tightened down the tranny you forced it against the, eh, it's not a flywheel, it's the auto equivilent of it, damn, what's the name of that thing? flexplate? So the tranny is stopping the engine from turning over.

All I can come up with.

Good luck and post when you figure it out.

Jay

I backed the 4 bolts/studs/nuts holding the engine to the trans and now it will turn. Theres only 1/8" of space between the two pieces now. Is it the lack of lockwashers, etc that are not currently installed maybe just placing the two pieces too close together?

Man, that sound just like the torque converter is not seated all the way.

try spinning the converter while pushing it towards the transmission, it will only seat on one position on the shaft.

Good Luck.

the lock washer shouldn't have any effect on how close the tranny housing is to the engine. They should fit flush/ tight. Am I misunderstanding you?

James and any others above are right. Not only that, its stuck. Ive removed the trans from the car again and I cant pull the torque converter away from the trans with a crowbar even. And it wont push further in.

S_IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now what? Continue with my post in the marketplace looking for a trans or is there a fix?

Isn't auto tranny fluid pretty much an oil of sorts? I dont have any tranny experience AT ALL, but seeing as how you are stuck, the torque converter is stuck, and you have a transmission that this stuff is used in, maybe you could try and lube it up a smidge and get it out that way. Just trying to help...seems like you need it :)

Sadie is taking the trans back to the junkyard to get another one. This one is toast. I believe the problem is that the yard pulled it out accidentally and wired it into place. In looking at the old one we figured out it was never in enough.
