nails24 Posted December 14, 2003 Share Posted December 14, 2003 My Soob is a cold climate vehicle and when it hit -10F the other day, my battery struggled. It is a store brand, Exide manufactured, 1 yr old item and I do not know the CCA. I checked out Interstate and they have a model MTP-24 rated at 800 CCA and there's a Duralast Gold rated at 900 CCA. I had an Interstate in an old Nissan 4 cyl and it never flinched in the coldest temps. My oil is Mobil1 5W30, soon to be 0W40, so I doubt that is too thick. Any input is appreciated !! MilesFox Posted December 14, 2003 Share Posted December 14, 2003 I have seen a lot of subarus with Iterstate batteries. i like them, i think they are OE for older soobs myoss feece's 87 RX had a side post delco. what? chevy guys must have worked on it. like when the car was sold for 200 bucks because it has a list of head repair needed to be done. turns out the plug wires were on backward...................... RedLance Posted December 14, 2003 Share Posted December 14, 2003 My mom had an Interstate that lasted 8 years in her Mercury, then another 2 years in our 1949 John Deere A. I have had good luck with Interstate as well, although they seem to be awfully expensive. I can go to Sam's Club, and buy a Champion, with a better warranty on it. My dad had a champion in his F250 that lasted like 5 years... I've started going with the Champion's...can't really beat em for warranty. Course, if you really want a battery, you go with an Optima...if you can afford the ~$130 price tag. They have like 850 CCA, and 950 CA. mitch184 Posted December 14, 2003 Share Posted December 14, 2003 Optima and Interstate are part of the same company so if there is an Interstate battery wearhouse around you can get optimas for really cheap. I bought my red top optima at the Interstate battery in WA for 60 bucks. It was brand new but they said it had cosmetic blemishes because it didn't have a label. They are expensive, but definitely a cut above the rest. A couple of other good ones are A/C Delco and Panasonic (if you can find one-they are manufactured in Japan). I run 20w50 motor oil. with synthetic oil the first number its how thick the oil is cold and the second number show the behavior of oil when warmed up. Currently my ea82t will crank a little slow in the morning, when the oil is 20w and once warmed up to operating temp the oil is more like a fifty weight, it cranks over just fine. About a year ago I had a Mazda 323 sedan, that burned oil like a mo fo. I started running chainsaw bar oil 90w to slow oil consumption down, but once snowfall hit I needed a jump start every morning and it cranked slow like it was turning jelly over in the motor. But once warmed up it would start all day untill next mornin when I needed another jump. Currently I have delco but soon as she fails INTERSTATE will take over a soob motor and bumpin toons. bleakhorizon Posted December 15, 2003 Share Posted December 15, 2003 i get optimas cheap cause a relative works for them so i have em in all my vehicles, But i will tell ya this if you live in an area that gets really cold or stays below freezing alot then you want a dry cell because ive blown up frozen batteries and let me tell ya what that is not a pretty sight in the engine bay......
