carry a kayak on your car roof! I spent the whole weekend driving my '99 OBW around the White Mtns in NH with my 12 ft kayak on the roof -- lots of mountain roads and highway driving -- and averaged 28 mpg!

 

I thought that was pretty good considering my city driving mileage is about 23 mpg.

 

Gee, I wonder what would happen if I put two kayaks on my roof?!?

If you strap them to the _bottom_ of the Suby you could have a nice little amphibian...

A few weeks ago we had enough rain to do exactly that.

 

I just brought my OBW to the auto detailer today to get the weekend mud washed off it, waxed, etc. He looked at it, smiled, and said, "So, been doin' some off-roadin' huh? What is it about you Subaru drivers?!? Can't seem to keep 'em on the pavement!"

 

He said he rarely gets muddy SUVs in for business, because so few people ever take 'em off road! :rollin:
