Finally Got Me A Subaru

Recommended Posts

Well did it today , picked up an 80 hatch 1600 4wd with 111K original miles with a EA81 swap and dual 4WD swap.

It has been sitting for a while and might have a small oil leak somewhere, but defintiely needs chaninging.

It made it home though, suggestions on anything I might be sure to check out for any little quirks sounds or what have you. I am new to subies so any info will be most helpful

congrats but you need to change out all the oils in the car. that would be the first thing i would do. when i got mine i drop the gear oil in the tranny and it was bad. same with rear end. just get some gear oil and some lucas. that stuff works magic. there is lucas for your motor oil and tranny. the tranny lucas will also work in your diff. then genral maintance stuff like spark plugs, cap, rotor, if you really want to get into it drain your gas and see if you have any trash in the tank. change the fuel filters. etc. its a fun car to work on cause its the few import that have room under the hood. good luck on your ride ;)

Nope, the D/R 4 speed was stock, I only installed the EA81. I'll get in touch with you when I get back from Oregon, we can talk about the car then. I think I still have some of the stuff I was going to up date Lewy was before I sold it. It was really hard to sell Lewy, I wish the wife would have let me keep it as well as the turbo. Lewy was a great little car while I had it.

Hey Ryer-s, I would do the brakes before you put the EJ20 into it, if not you may not live to enjoy all that power.

You are the fourth owner of Lewy, I was the second. I bought it from the daughter one the original owner, he was getting old and started to drive by feel, you'll notice a few places where there are small bumps in the body panels. Did you get the orginal documents from the former owner?? I'm sure that I gave them to him.

Unless you need it for transportation, can you wait until I get back from Oregon, I should be back in the afernoon of the 23rd. I realize it is a holiday, so we may not be able together until the 26th or later. I'll help you get my old buddy back into shape.

It sound like it needs a seal job, a lot easier on an EA81 then on an EA82. You might try putting a couple of cans of gas drier (turns the water into an alcohol mixture so it will burn). There is also an electrical drier that sprays on and evaporates quick, you might try that in the distributor, and all the electrical connections.

I'll see if I can get ahold of the guy I sould it to and see if he still has the documentation that I gave him.
