Guest Loosehead Prop
I have a 98 Outback with a 2.5L engine that is leaking oil from around the oil separator plate on the back side of the engine DESPITE three trips to the dealer to fix it. They have re-sealed the plate three times, but it is still leakin' like crazy. Does anyone have any repair suggestions, or should I just burn it for the insurance money;) ? Thanks for any advice you have.
Guest Commuter
That's the plate that covers the "hole" in the backside of the engine? It's not under pressure to my knowledge. 97 and earlier had plastic plates I believe. 98 and up have a metal plate. (Again, I think I got the year split right.) There were some leak problems with the plastic ones, hence the change to metal. Try another dealer. I can't believe that they would not get it right with 3 attempts. That's got to be an expensive repair. They are footing the bill on it I hope. Perhaps you have some other strange issue there that another dealer might spot. I probably haven't helped you at all. Good luck. Commuter
Guest Loosehead Prop
Commuter-- thanks for the advice-- I checked, and they have just been re-sealing the old plastic plate and have not replaced it with a metal one. After I complained lould enough, the dealer replaced the plastic plate with a metal one. Let's see if this one works
