Guest superdosser
Help. When I do a tight turn with my '97 Legacy OB with auto tranny, I get a pronounced shutter from the rear end. Almost like the rear diff isn't working? I remember reading about this in the past -- but nothing showed up when I searched the group with the web function. Any wisdom? My tires are all the same and newish with the same air pressure? Is this "torque bind" is this just a fluid change? I think the AT fluid is only 30K old? Thanks for any wisdom. And if this has been posted on before -- could you give me the link? I'm wondering if my search button is failing me. Cheers - -Eric
Guest Commuter
Manually look through the archives. I think there are a couple of stored threads in there. Try putting the fuse in the FWD holder (at firewall, near passenger strut tower under the hood) to disable the center clutch pack. If your binding goes away, you've narrowed down the problem. Guest remarcable
This happens to me when any single one of my tires is more than 5mm different than the others. It's a pain in the rump roast.
Guest intrigueing
Most people call what you are experiencing torque bind. It can have different causes, start with the simple cheap tests/fixes. Basically what is happening is the AWD is kicking in when it shouldn't. My problem was my tires - see my post. As little as 1/4 inch difference in tire circumference can cause binding. Here's the steps I'd take..... 1) visual inspection of tires - do they match, evenly worn? Measure tire circumference. 2) check tire pressure 3) test drive 4) try higher tire pressure 5) test drive Let us know what happens, there is no need to go into more detail until you have ruled out the tires. Don't take it to the dealer until you have ruled out the tires as they may suggest an expensive unnessary fix.
