ok, my clutch pedal sticks bout an inch or so from being fully up. what would cause this? and on to the odd sound. This morning I'm going down the road, and start hearing this turbo sound(whrrr ok so maybe a sick turbo. but a turbo sound none the less) I was in third about to shift to fourth. It didn't do it agian until I was driving to get gas this evening so I'm thinking it cold related. (sorry for the long post)

JW, on the pedal problem, RiverR has a must look at answer. If that is not the case check the Hill Holder cable.

The spring on the HH is the return spring. Possibly it is not returning the "free play" in the pedal.

BUT check for frayed inner cable bits as RR said.

The turbo "whirrrrrr", could be the speed 0 cable wanting some lube. They will make a similar noise in the cold.

I routed the cable the right way, the same as the old. but it shouldn't be binding. I'm thinking it could be the HH. Anyway to take that thing off or replace it? it doesn't work anyways(as for the holding it on hills)

Well you said it did this with the old cable also, if it was routed incorrectly...never mind..as you say.

The HH is no doubt out of adjustment, this probably is why it isn't holding.

Thje FSM even details a try and error method, adj tighter -try it, adjust try it... T&E so to speak.

If you manualy pull the clutch fork does the pedal come to the proper position?

Sorry I couldn't help.

I doubt its the cable. but I will check it when I get some time. and what it does is pops back up after I take my foot off of it when I shift like a bad return spring. one other thing I was thinking it might be is the PP would that do this kind of thing? which is why I think its the HH. I'm not saying its not the cable I'm not discounting your help I just really don't think its the cable as the one I replaced was the factory one. and I didn't even see how you could route the cable ABOVE the steering column. (and reading my first post I didn't explain it that well for that I'm sorry)

It's not the HH. They leak and fail but I have yet to see one bind up. It is in the pedal. You need to lube it. The pedal has two springs on it I believe(if it's a turbo)(one if not). Squirt some sort of lube around the pedal pivot and see if it helps. If it does you may want to disassemble the pedal assy and use some lithium grease to lube it all up. Make sure the clutch cable is routed under the steering column in the engine compartment. That is one of the most frequent mistakes I see on Subarus. People route them over the column and they wear out prematurely.

ok, checked the clutch cable and thats routed right. on lubing up the pivot would WD-40 work for that? and I don't have any springs on the clutch pedal just the brake pedal. BTW just to make sure ya'll know this is my hatch, the turbo thing kind of threw me off
