Dennis ex24 Posted January 2, 2004 Share Posted January 2, 2004 found this at a used dealer near my house...thinking about it for the fam. this one is that light green/almost teal color...not really my first choice but i think its a pretty good deal and imprezas are never in an abundance around here. it has 127K, new tires, runs/drives well, and has no body issues except for a slight crease in the right front fender. the guy wanted $2300 for it, i got him down to $2Gs with out trying (drove in with an 04 imp - company car, he noticed)...i was thinking of showing up with $1800 cash and seeing if he goes after it. what do you guys think? RallyKeith Posted January 2, 2004 Share Posted January 2, 2004 Well, the one thing you didn't mention but for the year should be assumed, is that it is an automatic? ( the 96 LSI was the first year for AWD 2.2 and 5spd if my memory serves me correct) For that reason alone I wouldn't buy it. Unless it was maintained properly you are bound to have problems. If it came across harsh it wasn't supposed to, It was honest. 80% of Americans do not properly maintain automatic transmissions. They need filters changed and fluid replaced just like an engine. If this isn't done problems will happen. With 127k on it that could be a long time of being driven without a proper fluid change. I've driven a lot of subarus with bad autos. I didn't say anything about the motors being a problem. In fact they are probably the second best motor Subaru has ever made. Second only to the original EA-81 pushrod style motors. What I did neglect to mention is that I personally dislike automatics. That couple with my personal involvement with bad legacy autos and the relatively high mileage of this car makes it one that I wouldn't buy. I'd hold out for a 5spd. I don't care what car it is though, Subaru, Ford, Yugo, if it's not maintained properly, it's not going to be reliable... I as well prefer a manual, but only for the driver involvement that an auto could NEVER offer... I am biased as is Setright, but I feel that the EJ22 is Subaru's best engine ever. Mine still runs better than many new cars I've driven at 127,000 miles. Subyluvr, I do thrash seven shades out of mine sometimes. Of course only when it's fully warmed up! That last stretch of revs from 6000 to 6500, WOW! What a sound....it's like the old EJ is saying, "Aha, give me more of that!" Impressive for 188k miles. M1 at 6k intervals, coolant every 20k, trans oil every 30k, and I have only hit the rev limiter three times in nearly two and a half years and over 60k miles. So I DO look after it too! SUBARU3 Posted January 3, 2004 Share Posted January 3, 2004 I have 2 1995 Imprezas: 95 EA22 Automatic L AWD 88K (In 95 the AWD/2.2 combination were available.) 95 EA18 5 speed L FWD 56K Both are Fantastic vehicles. The automatic is flawless and shifts smoother glass. The 5 speed is just as nice. Shifts very much like my 79 GF! The only issues I have had with both were recall related. (Cam and crank sensor replacement.) I just had the temp sensor on the 2.2 fart, so $20 later it's good as new. The Imprezas have a bit better build quality then the Legacys in my opinion, as they are assembled completely in Japan. No mexican made parts! The price is low at 2K.
