I would pull the engine back out - check to see what's up - sounds like something got chewed up. If you don't see anything - you might check the governor on the side of the trans - sometimes those get their gears chewed up. If your don't find anything in either of those places, pull down the pan, and see if there's gear teeth in it (yikes!).

Thanks for the advice hoping i didn't have to pull it. Is the 5spd converstion pretty easy now might be the time i guess. I have the flywheel already i'm assuming all i would need is the tranny, clutch, driveline and driveshaft. It's zero degrees here and i'm pretty frustrated right now.

The bolts are tight, but i'm not sure what you mean lock it in. It's was working for a couple of days, when it started to make grinding sounds and there where some sparcks. I tightened the mounting bolts and the sound went away jump in and there was nothing. thanks jay

Not necessarily. My manual is a 3.7

Depends on which manual you use.

manuals from turbo cars are 3.7.

manuals from N/A cars are 3.9

The 5 speed swap isn't too hard.. hardest part is the pedal box.. just make sure you have all the parts when you start.. It sucks having to make a bunch of trips to the yard to find little stuff.
