It has a coolant temp sensor. it's located under the left intake runners if you're facing the engine from the front of the car.

The coolant temp sensor sounds to be the thing as the symptom im having is lack of boost (going into "fail-safe mode") temp gauge hardly looks liks going when on open road but goes between 1/4 to just under half around town , ive been having the computer cleared quite often with the error (isc or isc valve) but after having it cleared and runs well till electric fans start then comes up with the error again goes back to limp mode , and this mechanic (supposed subaru specialist) guy which ive been hasnt been able to work it out , the reason for my threry was due to a snowfall here and as ya do have the heater cranking and went for a blast up the hills and the temp gauge hardly moved , Does this sound like a common symptom if the coolant sensor sensor is shot or if the thermostat is stuck ?? btw , thanx josh

The code you're getting ISC valve relates to the idle air control valve. I'm not sure what that has to do with your problems.

If you suspect cooling issues, I would first replace the thermostat, and flush the cooling system. Drive the car and see if the problem still occurs. You can check the codes on your car yourself. Instructions to do this should be similar if not the same as the US-spec cars. Check out the instructions on my site under notes&tips.

You can clear your ECU yourself by using the two connectors, or you can pull the fuse for your ECU. On the US cars it's fuse 16, the one labeled EGI/TCU. Pull it for 10 minutes.

I'd recommend reading the codes and, then clearing, then drive the car and see what pops up again.
