I have had my 98 OBW for almost 2 yrs. It started out getting about 24, got it to a consistent 26-28. Now it has dropped to 20-22! Yikes! Changed the plugs & air filter about 6K ago, and change the oil & filter every 3K. Any ideas of why my gas mileage dropped? Anyone else get this? What is everyone getting?

I did have a remote start installed, so my car idles more now, but it dropped before the remote....puzzled.

The best I know of is 34mpg in summer. Mostly highway driving. AC does not work, no power steering, those belts aren't even there.

It was funny, too: I had my GLF for a few months then and was just getting into things. I also was very tired and didn't pay attention to how full (or rather empty) my tank was. So I almost parked in front of the house, and the car dies. I try to crank it back up, doesn't work -- what the ...?

Turned out I just ran out of gas. The trip-meter read 520+ miles. So, IF the gas tank is 15 gallons (I'm pretty sure it is), then 34+ mpg is fairly accurate. And all that with the steering wheel bouncing and kicking at anything above 50 mph and unbalanced very old wheels. I am still wondering how I managed to cover almost 1.000 miles in 2 days and not break down!

I normally averaged 25-26 mpg in my 97 OBW mostly driving to work via highway at 75-80 mph.

I've noticed it has dropped by at least 1 mpg in the last month or so, which I presume is from a change in gasoline composition for winter temperatures and the fact that you are pushing the car through denser air.

On my 97 OBW, usually between 330 and 375 miles. I almost made 400 once, someone who has the patience to drive at 55 could do it.....

I've had a couple of 400 mile tanks with my 95 Wagon (not OB). In my Honda Insight Hybrid I had a couple of 800 mile tanks, which is pretty extraordinary considering the tank is only 10.9 gallons.

I am averaging 27.42 US MPG from my MY03 XS Forester and that is

over 45 tank fulls (I fill to the neck everytime) and 12245.98 US Miles and due to where I live in Australia that includes the A/C running 98% of the time and I am not a slow driver by any stretch of the imagination.
