I went to start my 98 Legacy Outback and the battery was completely dead. After I jumped it, I noticed the parking lights (and dashboard lights) flashed on and off exactly 30 times , pasued, and then cycled through again. It does this even when the car is switched off. Obviously, this is what drained my battery, but is this an error code of some sort? Why would the parking lights and interior dash lights be the ones flashing. Also, I can hear the lights switching on and off with a slight click similar to a turn signal.

I'm stuck at my in-laws house and will have to jump it off when we leave. Is this something simple that can be fixed with a relay or fuse changem or is it an error code of some sort?

Please - any help you can give id appriciated!!!!

the lights are flashing because the battery went dead and this is what the factory alarm does. Open/close doors with the remote. It should work. I think that's what you need to do. Scoobtech, just answered this question a couple days ago.

Trying to recall as well...

I presume you have keyless entry?

Hold down the unlock button until it stops. I think that was the way to get it out of the "alarm" mode.

And you may not have an alarm... but this is what happens anyway.

I wonder if cycling the 'on-off' sequence 3 times with the ignition, as outlined in my OB manual for disabling the alarm, would also work?

Yes , just hold down the unlock button on the remote until it stops . I assume you do not have the alarm upgrade , because you mentioned nothing about the horn sounding . This is not the cause of your dead battery , rather it is the effect .0]
