Guest giboufou
Hi, Does anyone know offhand the torque necessary for the crankshaft pulley bolt on a 1998 2.5L Legacy Outback? I'm guessing its like a regular 4 cyl. around 130 ft/lbs. Thanks, G
Guest tcspeer
Haynes manuel say's 90 -100 on the 2.5 and 70 to 80 on the 2.
Guest ccrinc
Haynes manual is wrong!!!!! Both should have at least 125 lbs of torque. Emily www.ccrengines.com
Guest tcspeer
Chilton's say's crank pully bolt torque is 69-76 lbs. for 2.2 and 94 lbs. for 2.5 are they wrong also?
Guest tcspeer
I will confess the subaru people had it much tighter than this the first time I took it off. It took two of us with a large pipe to hold it and the biggest breaker bar that Harbor Freight tools sell to get it loose. I have over 1/4 millon miles on it now ( I run mail Rt.) and have had it off many times and have never torqued more than 90 Ft. pounds and it is always tight when I take it back off and it don't take two people to do it. I would prefer to retighten it than get a broken bolt out of crank.

Guest Commuter
On the other hand... there have been a lot of reports of damaged keyways at the pulley from people NOT torquing the bolt sufficiently. People who have done a timing belt change themselves, etc. CCR Inc knows their stuff. I don't think they'd mislead you. Perhaps those aftermarket manuals are wrong because Subaru had it wrong initially in their manuals. When one considers all the specs that are in a book like that, it would be surprising if a few were not incorrect. Commuter
Guest applegump
Subaru got the torque figure wrong in the early manuals so consequently the aftermark manuals got it wrong too.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> The torque should be greater than 90.
