Guest bratman2 Posted August 11, 2003 Share Posted August 11, 2003 Joe, have had one on my 2000 F-150 for almost three years with no problem, one is installed on my daughter's 93 Legacy with a little over 30k usage with no problems ( just cleaned and reoiled it for first time a couple of weeks ago) and one is also on my Brat, it came with my Webber kit about 13k ago. No problems with any of them but don't buy it thinking you will gain any noticeable hp gains except from replacing an already nasty filter. Also i wouldn't buy it unless I intended on keeping the car until it totally died. The service kit will service one filter many times as I have reoiled my truck filter twice ( truck sits alot while I tool around in the Brat)., cleaned and reoiled the Brat filter once and have reoiled the Legacy filter once and cleaned and reoiled it recentily. Guest Tom63050 Posted August 11, 2003 Share Posted August 11, 2003 A good and free way to get more HP from 4000 rpm on up is to drill a bunch of holes, or cut a big hole, into the bottom of the airbox. The airbox intake is very restrictive. Below about 4000 rpm you're not flowing enough air for the K&N to make a difference. I did this on my 91 Loyale, wagon, basically the same car you have, and it made a quite noticeable difference. I then installed a turbo/cherry bomb muffler for increased flow on the other end, but it didn't seem to make much if any difference over the stock muffler. Guest grease weasel Posted August 13, 2003 Share Posted August 13, 2003 I use the oil in the summer because it super dusty here.I drill a network of holes in my box it adds flow and makes a cool humming sound.the K&N are gaurentied for a million miles, you will never need to buy a filter again. Guest Snowman Posted August 14, 2003 Share Posted August 14, 2003 Installing a K&N filter should give you a decent power increase at higher rpms. BUT I still absolutely swear by Unifilter foam air filters. It definitely caused a power increase on my car, and they claim to filter out particles 30 times smaller than K&N filters. That in conjunction with a better muffler (didn't have a chance to test this with just the filter installed) raised my top speed from 75 to 90. I had to get mine out of Australia, but they don't cost that much and shipping was pretty reasonable.
