EJ18 is an EJ22...?

the only difference is a different stroke, ie diff crank but everything else is the same right...?

the pistons are different too I believe, Im sure there are more differences than you think... the block might be the same or close, but I have no real clue there...

ej22 has block stamp ej22
that part different obviously.

the crank and connecting rod bearins are the sam, this means the crank is the same? the piston rings are different. i don't have a guess about the stroke, buyt i bet the bore is different. that would be the easiest way to increase the displacement.

EJ18 Bore 92mm Stroke 67mm

EJ22 Bore 96.9 Stroke 79mm

EJ25 Bore 99.6 Stroke 79mm

I know this is an older post but wanted to clear up some misinformation in case others find it.

EJ18 Bore 92mm Stroke 67mm, this is wrong, the bore is 87.9 mm and the stroke is 75mm

EJ22 Bore 96.9 Stroke 79mm, the bore is right but the stroke is 75mm

EJ25 Bore 99.6 Stroke 79mm, this one is correct.

Yeah, the EJ18 is a smaller bore. Everything else except pistons and therefore smaller rings, is the same between the EJ18 and the EJ22.

They were designed to be swapped between the two. Everything from an EJ18 (intake, exhaust, accessories, etc.) fit an EJ22 and vice versa.

HP difference: EJ218 = 115hp. EJ22 = 130-135hp.

That info came from a 99' shop manual. Meaning it's referencing the Phase II, EJ22.

The Phase II 2.2 is an oddball. Basically a smaller bore Phase II 2.5.

So for 99 only EJ22 the bore/stroke may be correct. (96.9/79mm)

i know, i know.....

this thread is older than moses' grandpa.

but im curious, can my ej18 be STROKED?

doesnt stroke tend to create low-mid rpm torque?

where bore tends to create mid-high rpm horsepower???

do the ej22 con-rods swap into my ej18?

and everything else <fuel lines, ecu, harness, pistons, rings, etc>

could stay the same stock original ej18 parts??

You will probably need custom pistons because the distance between the center of the wristpin and the deck of the block gets shorter the more you stroke the engine out.
Cheaper to just run a 2.2l or a 2.5l.
